Superintendent's Message

November 17, 2022

Dear Parents of Gilford School District,

I hope this letter finds you well and you are enjoying some Fall activities, what a great Fall we have had.  It is almost turkey time, my favorite holiday.

As of this week we do have confirmed cases of the Flu, RSV, and Strep Throat and we are following recommendations regarding the treatment and recovery of these illnesses.

Just like with any other illness, we ask that parents uphold our school policies and keep children home when they have fevers over 100 degrees, have contagious symptoms of active coughs, vomiting, or diarrhea. It is extremely important that Influenza like symptoms such as fever, body aches, nasal congestion, sore throat, fatigue, and cough be reported to the school.  Children can return to school when they are fever free for 24 hours or more without the use of fever-reducing medications, and their symptoms have subsided.  If you are unsure of whether to keep your child home or need medical advice, please contact  your Primary Care Physician (PCP) directly.

Please continue to help us educate your child on transmission prevention by role modeling and encouraging good hand-washing techniques and by coughing in your sleeve.  Our custodial staff is alerted and actively involved in our efforts to reduce transmission of illnesses. Please make sure the school office has your correct phone numbers on file, and additional emergency contacts are up to date.

November 10, 2022

At the November 7th School Board meeting, the Gilford School Board's proposed 2023-2024 budget was presented and reviewed.  The budget will be presented to the Budget Committee in December.

The School Board also decided at that meeting that the first "snow day" will be a traditional snow day.  Depending on when the next snow day falls it could be a traditional snow day or a remote learning day.  We will avoid remote learning days the Friday before a vacation or the Monday after a vacation.  We will avoid two remote learning days in a row.  We will take into consideration the type of participation when considering a remote learning day, as an example we wou
ld not have a remote learning day during an ice storm.  Remote learning days will have a similar schedule to last year:
  • The day will start 8:00-11:30 AM with instruction,
  • 11:30 AM-12:30 PM will be lunch and recess,
  • 12:30-2:30 PM teachers will have office hours and be available to connect with learners.
Each school will have a schedule and depending on the grade level the instructional time and delivery of material in the morning may be modified to meet the unique needs of all the learners.  Please click here to read the snow day procedures.

American Rescue Plan act

Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief III

The Gilford School District has received $1,246,509.89 as our allocation for the ARP ESSER III grant.  These grant funds are available to the local school district until September 30, 2024.  Twenty percent of the ARP ESSER III funds must be set aside to address learning loss.  For the Gilford School District we must set aside $249,302.00 to address learning loss.

The remaining funds are intended to assist school districts in response to COVID-19.  Some of those items may include instructional technology, protective equipment, cleaning supplies, air exchange or ventilation systems, social and emotional learning, staffing and supporting academic growth.
We are currently in the process of developing priorities for the ARP ESSER III grant. If you are interested in providing input or suggestions regarding the use of ARP ESSER III funds, please submit information to
[email protected].  Thank you for your help.

Fingerprinting for Volunteers and Chaperones

The Gilford School District welcomes volunteers in our schools.

A fingerprint background check is required in all Gilford schools for individuals, volunteers and chaperones engaged in the following activities:

  • classroom volunteers

  • chaperones on field trips

  • assisting at school activities such as dances, plays and concerts

  • volunteer coach

Once a thorough background investigation and criminal records check is complete with no disqualifying records and the volunteer has completed orientation, the volunteer will be issued an identification badge to be worn every time the volunteer works in the school.

Fingerprint clinics are scheduled at the SAU office located at 2 Belknap Mountain Road.  A photo ID is required for identification.

The process takes approximately 30 minutes. A photo will be taken for the ID badge.

Anyone who volunteers in the Gilford School District must complete an annual Volunteer Affidavit and Confidentiality Agreement.

Volunteers who have already been issued an ID badge and would like a new badge for the 2022-2023 school year need to complete the Volunteer Affidavit and Confidentiality Agreement and submit to the SAU office. Every four years volunteers will need to go through the background investigation and criminal records check at the SAU office.

Volunteer Affidavit

Confidentiality Agreement

The form can be printed, completed and submitted to the SAU.  Forms can be emailed to [email protected]

Gilford School District policies JFABD (Admission of Homeless Students), ACAC (Title IX Sexual Harassment) and JICK (Bullying and Cyberbullying) must be reviewed annually by all volunteers.  Click here to review the policies.
